HEARTBRUT x Open House Zürich 2023

We are joining this year's edition of the architecture festival with three guided tours

We are delighted to join forces again with architecture festival Open House Zürich taking place on 30.9 – 1.10. See you there?

The Heartbrut City Safari takes you from the National Museum to Swissmill Tower. It explores Zurich’s little-known 19th-century concrete pioneer as well as other groundbreaking modernist and contemporary buildings along Lettenkanal. Other stops include Platzspitz Park, the popular river lidos designed by Elsa Burkhardt-Blum and James Joyce’s favourite spot. Outside Swissmill Tower, architects Regula and Robert Haas from hh+ will join us to tell us more about the making of their striking, 118-metre-high exposed concrete silo in Zurich West.

Our second tour visits the legendary Hochhaus zur Palme on Bleicherweg, built in the 1960s. The windmill-shaped office and commercial building was not only one of the very first high-rises in town, it also turbocharged Zurich into the car age. Highlights include the car ramp inspired by New York’s Guggenheim Museum, the parking deck with its characteristic snow shelters resembling rows of palm fronds and the breathtaking views from the roof terrace. Some secrets will also be revealed, such as what the huge golden chandelier in the foyer is all about.
