Heartbrut x Open House Zürich

We join the 2022 edition of the architecture festival as a cooperation partner with two guided tours

HEARTBRUT is proud to join forces with architecture festival Open House Zürich as a cooperation partner for this year’s edition taking place on 1-2 October. The collaboration features two guided tours with Karin Bürki, Head of Heartbrut. In addition, HEARTBRUT is featured as a partner in the official leaflet and on the Open House Zürich website.

Our first tour visits the legendary Hochhaus zur Palme on Bleicherweg, built in the 1960s. The windmill-shaped office and commercial building was not only one of the very first high-rises in town, it also turbocharged Zurich into the car age. Highlights include the car ramp inspired by New York’s Guggenheim Museum, the parking deck with its characteristic snow shelters resembling rows of palm fronds and the breathtaking views from the roof terrace. Some secrets will also be revealed, such as what the huge golden chandelier in the foyer is all about.

The City Safari Heartbrut leads from the National Museum to the Swissmill Tower. It explores Zurich’s largely unknown concrete pioneer from the 19th century as well as other groundbreaking modernist and contemporary buildings along Lettenkanal. Other stops include Platzspitz Park, the popular river baths built by Elsa Burkhardt-Blum and James Joyce’s favourite place.

HEARTBRUT takes a fresh look at Swiss concrete icons, inspiring new audiences for this important piece of Swiss cultural heritage. HEARTBRUT is headed by Zurich-based writer & photographer Karin Bürki.
