Basel boasts numerous world-class concrete buildings from the 20th century. The brutalist icons attract a growing international following. The problem is that many objects are hidden away in the neighbourhoods. Basel Tourism and HEARTBRUT have teamed up to make it easier for tourists and locals to explore the buildings. The result is Switzerland’s first brutalist (e-)bike tour.

This easy tour through the city centre and along the Rhine takes in seven outstanding icons of concrete modernism. The one-hour loop starts at Markthalle (Market Hall) next to Basel’s SBB railway station and takes in St Anthony Church (1927) and the University Library (1968). On the other side of the Rhine, the tour continues to Erlenmatt Silo (1912) and Masonry Hall (1961). After a detour to Turbinenhalle power plant (1954) in Birsfelden, it returns to the city centre and visits Theater Basel (1975). The ride ends again at Markthalle.
