The discreet charm of haute-brute living
Located in Berne’s leafy diplomatic quarter, and leaning towards a rather baroque take on brutalism, the four concrete apartment houses nod to the neighbourhood’s high-bourgeois pomp lurking behind the walls and carefully manicured topiary. Individual layouts, private terraces and separate entrances, some of them featuring spiral staircases, do their absolute best to make the apartments look and feel like single-family homes. The upmarket estate also boasts communal facilities, like an indoor swimming-pool and hobby rooms.
A word of warning: please note Brunnadern is a private estate, as various signs not so discreetly indicate. If you do get caught red-handed, declaring to be a fan of Atelier 5 in a posh English accent should help deescalate the situation.
