Established in Bern in 1955, the architectural firm Atelier 5 was instrumental in introducing exposed concrete housing in Switzerland. While Flamatt I liberally cited Corbu’s seminal unité d’habitation in Marseille, with Flamatt II the boys embraced the curvaceous poetry of the Palace of Assembly in Chandigarh, India. The compact box on stilts consists of two identical units and a larger studio space with a private roof garden.

Both Flamatt I and II are listed as Objects of National Significance.
In their early years, the five founding members acted like architectural DJs, skilfully remixing their idol grandmaster Le Corbusier.
