Still Fresh
The sculptural concrete school complex continues the pioneering style the architectural firm Förderer, Otto and Zwimpfer established with their 1962 Neumatt school in nearby Aesch (BL). The primary comprises a main tract, sports hall, assembly hall as well as a kindergarten and outdoor play areas. Smart landscaping helps the striking combination of school and sculpture fit neatly into the the residential neighbourhood. Having undergone two carefully executed refurbishments Neumatt looks as fresh and pristine as ever. The complex remains a textbook example of how to deal with postwar concrete with due respect and care.
